This year at Cox's Creek Elementary our focus has been EMPOWERMENT. We are striving to EMPOWER both students and staff and we have had many conversations around Empowering Leaders, and Empowering Learners. We have done a great deal of reflection on where we currently are as a school with Empowering Leaders, Empowering Learners and how to make Project Backpack a part of the Cox's Creek Story.
We have engaged in the conversation about Project Backpack in small circles, as well as with our entire staff. Last week, we discussed Project Backpack as an SBDM Council. This conversation was beneficial to have SBDM on board, especially as we make decisions about next school year. I also have a JCPS teacher, as a parent representative, who was able to provide good insight on how they are using Project Backpack in his school district. Our Backpack Leader leads our Student Empowered Learning Teacher Leadership Team. Notes from that meeting are linked HERE. Lastly, we brought our Student Backpack Leaders into the conversation. Our Student Backpack Leaders are excited to plan their Externship Projects using Project Backpack.
On the 2.14 Backpack Day we engaged in conversations around Project Backpack with our entire staff. We began the conversation by reflecting over our current reality with Empowering Leaders and Empowering Learners. We then introduced Project Backpack and had powerful discussions over what we wanted the future to hold for our students. A great deal of our conversations keep coming back to CARETAKING, and I believe CARETAKING will be the "C" that drives Project Backpack for Cox's Creek. Notes from the whole staff discussion around Project Backpack can be found HERE.
Shown above is our school timeline for Project Backpack. HERE is the Slidedeck that we worked through with staff on our 2.14 Backpack Day. As a school we have been discussing Grade Level Experiences that revolve around Literacy, Student Empowered Learning and Caretaking. After we have determined our school gifts for Project Backpack in the Spring, we will come together this summer to plan our Grade Level Experience that will revolve around the 5 C's of Project Backpack. I was excited to see the staff's NRG and passion behind this initiative.
